Opportunity to Mentor a Child

I discovered a website the other day which was very interesting. It is called C.L.I.C.K which stands for “Creating Links and Independent Connections with Kids”. It is a community program run by “Catholic Care”. Basically it gives an adult the opportunity to spend 2 hours per fortnight with a child 9-16 years old from the Fairfield/Liverpool area. Naturally there is a training course and screening of potential mentors. The children usually come from poorer families in need of good role models. The mentor is not required to spend money for expensive outings or activities. The focus is more on building a safe, healthy, positive and motivating relationship with the child. This could be done through the creation of an art project, science project or perhaps reading out loud a good book or novel, just to name a few examples.

I thought this would be a great idea for single adults or couples who are not called to have children or cannot have children. It is a wonderful opportunity to give mature friendship and guidance to children who may be lacking this due to family circumstances.
